Welcome to Rochedo – we are a small stud specialising in Welsh & Dartmoor ponies for both ridden and in hand. Our main aim is to produce these M&M up from youngsters; both home bred and brought in, with an eye to their long-term future.

This formula works along the line of lightly showing the ponies as babies, turning away to mature until bringing back early in their 3rd year. They are then re-assessed as to their potential future, i.e. in-hand, breeding and, or ridden, with an initial career plan mapped out.

We started this pursuit when we purchased our first Welsh Sec A gelding Sunrising Frisky, for our then 18 month old daughter Deanna – keen or what? This culminated in the pair of them qualifying for Wembley in 2000 a dream come true.

The stables door shrank and numbers increased as our ridden horses and Lusitanos were soon replaced by their smaller native cousins.

Our other major influence was a 36” ‘white’ Shetland Sprinter of Belmont – born on the north most Shetland Isle of Unst. Sprinter has taught both children to ride and as important to show in-hand. He is still a major player as he acts as nursemaid to the weanlings and is currently introducing 6 year old Leandra to First Ridden. Incidentally he only just missed qualifying for Wembley when he was placed 2nd, at his only attempt, in 2000.

Both of these ponies are our mainstay and to all intents and purposes will stay out their lives at Rochedo. They owe us nothing, whilst we owe them everything.
