Natives
Although we are committed to Welsh ponies of all sections, we are also
receptive to other native breeds. In particular Sprinter has been a major
influence to us. However, as the children are growing, and we have currently
given up the larger Sec C & D's, we are finding ourselves drawn more
and more to the Dartmoors. This charming breed is very different from
our Welsh Ponies.
Our scenario of a Dartmoor versus A Welsh: - in a field the ponies spot
an open gate. The Welsh is through the gate
before you can even register the fact, whilst the Dartmoor will note the
gate is open, observe what is on the other side, see if he can work out
how it opened but most important of all how he can use it to his advantage.
They also, like the Shetlands, NEVER forget anything.
Saying this we do find them better for First Ridden than the sharper Sec
A and will continue to include them as part of Rochedo.
Sprinter
(Sprinter of Belmont)
Grey 14 year old 36" Shetland. Purchased in 1996 having just been
gelded and backed. At first terrified of anyone near his feet, a total
refusal to load and a buck that could rival a rodeo steer. But thanks
to the then 3 year old Deanna, who didn't intimidate him, he soon converted
to the gentlest most obliging pony we have ever owned.
He is virtually unbeaten in young handler & bonny pony classes and
more than held his own in M&M Lead Rein up to and including Wembley
Qualifiers where he ended up 2nd at his only attempt. However, we never
actually found a judge who was brave enough to place him first in an affiliated
Lead Rein Class - a real shame.
Langfield
Zigith
Bay 11 year old gelding purchased off some good friends of ours - Emmie,
Claire and Pauline Collier.
Ziggy's job has been to take Deanna into First Ridden. This he has successfully
done, but not without the odd hiccup along the way. Deanna has had to
work hard for all her successes and will continue to do so. Even now Emmie
kindly helps Deanna with both her Dartmoor ponies.

Whitover
Rival
Bay 7 year old gelding a joint purchase by ourselves and his breeder last
year 2001.
On arrival Rival had a mind of his own and an aversion to any contact
with his mouth. After a few exciting Lead Rein Classes with Leandra, the
ride passed to Deanna. The two have quickly gelled, again thanks to help
from Emmie Collier. Both Deanna and Rival are looking forward to the 2002
season together.

Rosy Breeze by Brandsby Tornado.
Vean
Bill Brewer
3 year old bay gelding - currently out with the other geldings enjoying
life whilst he matures ready for ridden in 2003. A super natured pony
who had a very light, but successful, yearling showing career. 1st NPS
Summer Champs Dartmoor Yearling and Northern Counties Mixes M&M Small
Breeds Yearling Of The Year.
Sire Catesby Crusader II, Dam Vean Theodora by Shilstone

Vean Harry Hawk
2 year old bay colt - out with the other colts at Rochedo. Won at Northern
Dartmoor show only time shown in 2001. Destined to stand at stud unless
the children get their way and have him for ridden.

Vean
West Wind
6 year old bay gelding - currently being ridden by a good friend of ours
Rebecca Jarvis. Woody is a real future super star being full brother to
Vean Brown Trout and Vean Hobajon. However, he is currently a much too
big a pony for Deanna and Leandra, so will wait in the sidelines until
they are ready for him.
Our special thanks to Rebecca for looking after him, for us, at this
time.
